Princess - A Heart that needs mending.
As some of you are aware once a year a team of heart surgeons comes from Australia to Port Moresby, our capitol city, to perform heart surgery on mostly kids with congenital heart defects. This year they will come the last week of July. They usually stay about 10 days. There is a little girl on the pediatric ward right now who needs their help. Her parents have not yet given her a name so I have begun calling her "Princess". She has a little more complicated heart defect then some and it is not clear yet whether or not she will be a candidate for surgery. She has a hole between the ventricles and also an interrupted aortic arch, which basically means that the aorta stops and then restarts. There are some other vessels that allow blood to get to the lower extremities but it is a mixture of blood that has been oxygenated in the lungs and some blood that has not been oxygenated. Please pray with us for Princess as we continue to look after her here until she is able to see the Australian cardiologist in July to determine if she is a surgical candidate.
